Rent-A-Wreck of Ashtabula Celebrates Twenty Year Anniversary

(4/18/07) Laurel, MD – Russ Makynen, owner and operator of Rent-A-Wreck of Ashtabula the convenient and cost-saving neighborhood car rental company, is celebrating his 20th year of success this month.

Since joining the Rent-A-Wreck system, the Ashtabula fleet has grown to include a variety of vehicles. Located at 1520 Bunker Hill Road, Russ’s Rent-A-Wreck is one of more than 300 franchise locations worldwide.

Before starting with Rent-A-Wreck, Russ worked as a Snap-on tool dealer. Eventually he decided that he needed a change of pace and started looking for a business where he could manage a few employees and have more free time with his family. A chance encounter led Russ to taking over Rent-A-Wreck from its previous owner. Russ’s first order of business was to add Greyhound Ticket Counter and Penske truck rental facilities to the same building, making it the Rent-A-Wreck his customers have grown to know over the past twenty years.

Now that Russ has the free time he craved, he spends it outside with his family, motorcycling and enjoying the scenic area near Lake Erie. As for his business, he attributes his long-running success to loyal customers and local churches that often rent his vans.

“Our focus over the past twenty years has been to meet the used car rental and leasing needs of the community. We’ve made the Rent-A-Wreck name stand for quality and service,” said Russ.

Rent-A-Wreck rents new and used cars, vans and trucks. Used vehicles are typically two to four years old. Every Rent-A-Wreck vehicle is expertly serviced and safety inspected before each rental. Most standard sizes and models, including vans and trucks are available.
