Local Rent-A-Wreck Owner Buys Gulfport Location

(1/13/06) Owings Mills, MD – Rent-A-Wreck of Gulfport has been re-opened by Brett Henson, who is ready to serve the public with vehicle rentals at 3215 25th avenue in Gulfport.

Henson also owns a Rent-A-Wreck vehicle rental location in Hattiesburg. His plans to open in Gulfport were delayed by the damage caused by hurricane Katrina; however, University of Southern Mississippi graduate did not let the storm cancel his plans for expansion.

Henson has been involved with cars for most of his life. He started out selling used cars and working as an insurance agent. When his used car lot gained success, Brett decided he wanted to expand his business to better serve the community. He bought a vacant lot near his used car dealership and turned it into Rent-A-Wreck of Hattiesburg. Twelve years later, he got an opportunity to expand his reach once again and bought Rent-A-Wreck of Gulfport from Jim Williams, the previous owner who planned to retire.

Just as Henson was ready to take over the Gulfport location, Katrina sidelined his plans. The storm severely damaged Rent-A-Wreck’s building and the surrounding area, causing him to hold-off on the opening for 45 days. Eventually, requests from local residents who were in need of a rental car started pouring in. To accommodate them Brett bought a trailer and immediately started renting cars from there. It was not easy, but he credits the manager of the store, James McCarthy, for helping him get the job done. When things settle down and they move to their regular building, Henson says he hopes to expand his fleet of vehicles.
